Diederik Stols (1969) joined Boekx as a partner on 1 January 2009. He graduated from Leiden University in 1993 and subsequently earned an LL.M degree at King's College, University of London. He was admitted to the Amsterdam Bar in 1995. Diederik started working at the law firm Loeff Claeys Verbeke, which merged into the UK firm Allen & Overy in 2000. In 2003 he moved to DLA Piper where he set up the media and entertainment practice.
Diederik specializes in media and entertainment law, intellectual property and e-commerce. Many of his clients are active in the media and communications industry, such as TV producers, new media companies, radio broadcasters, motion picture producers, cultural institutions, theater producers and music companies. He also represents a number of sports and FMCG brand owners on intellectual property and advertising law.
Diederik has written dozens of publications about intellectual property and media law. His articles appeared in nationwide newspapers, including NRC Handelsblad and Financieele Dagblad, as well as in legal journals and marketing journals. Furthermore, Diederik is a country correspondent for the Netherlands of Entertainment Law Review, published by Sweet & Maxwell. He is frequently invited as a speaker on seminars and conventions. Diederik lectures on IP at the postgraduate institute of Leiden University, and on copyright at the MBA Cross Media Program organized by the Hilversum Media Academy. Diederik was individually ranked in the Legal 500 Europe (2007) as a ‘no nonsense lawyer' in the chapter Media and Entertainment.
